Researchers were given the drugs' label information for about five years and then asked whether the drugs were safe to use. If they were, they found that the drugs worked in very good health.
“Our findings are not surprising,” said study co-author Dr. James C. Hirsch, director of cardiology for the University of Minnesota.
“They are just very different from other medications, and it’s just that they are very similar in terms of the way they work.
“The most interesting finding is that there is no difference between the drugs,” he said.
In the study, which was funded by Bayer HealthCare, researchers found that Levitra was not effective at all, or at least not enough.
“The study shows that it is not just the pill that is not effective, but the way the drug works,” said co-author Dr. Richard E. Williams, director of clinical research and preventive medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.
